Raising funds for Charity

Each year Revive! UK undertake different inititives to raise money for their sponsored charity Cancer Research UK. In their latest endeavour a team of ten braved the elements in Cumbria......
Having already jumped out of an aeroplane the Revive! UK team looked for a new challenge this year in an attempt to raise more money for Cancer Research.
On a slight wet and misty morning in the 'summer' of 2008 the brave team of ten began their ascent of Helvellyn, a very challenging mountain overlooking Ullswater in beautiful Cumbria. Although aware that the climb of over 3000 feet would be a challenge the ladies (and a couple of gents!) weren't quite prepared for the awful conditions that set in as they got higher. After climbing for almost two hours with the rain getting progressively heavier the team reached Striding Edge - the final push to the summit - only to find that the mist was so thick visibility was dangerously poor.
We are delighted to report that all arrived safely back at base several hours later - and much wetter!
To add a little bit of excitement to the day Alison Byerley Franchise Support Officer wore a pedometer and people sponsoring the team were asked to guess how many steps the climb would include. Well done to Margaret Curtis of Rugby who guessed almost exactly that Alison would take 15,200 steps in this challenge.
The total raised for Cancer Research was £1,400.
